At Dandelie, we work with different leather finishes that each bring their own character to a boot. Understanding those finishes can make it much easier to choose the pair that feels right for you. It also helps explain why one boot might feel sleek and refined, while another feels softer, more grounded, or more vintage from the very first wear.
Smooth

Some boots catch the light straight away. Our shiny finishes are made from smooth leather that has been hand polished to create a softer shine and a more uniform look. The result feels refined, clean, and timeless, with a finish that gives the boot a more dressed up character without losing its warmth.
There is something very classic about this kind of leather. It feels neat, elegant, and easy to style, whether the shape is bold or simple. The shine is not harsh or overly glossy. It has more of a rich, polished glow that brings out the beauty of the leather itself.
Textured

Some leathers invite you to notice the texture first. Suede and nubuck both belong to this world, with their soft, brushed finish and more tactile feel. They have a velvety surface that gives them depth and softness, making the overall look feel a little more relaxed and romantic than polished smooth leather.
There is also another kind of texture that appears in some of our smooth leather boots, such as the Chunky Boots in Green and Baby Blue. These styles are made with top grain leather, which can show more natural grain and surface character. So while the leather is still smooth, it does not look completely flat or uniform. Instead, it has a richer, more natural finish that gives the boot extra personality.
Matte

Matte finishes have a softer kind of presence. Suede and nubuck naturally sit in this category because their brushed surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, which gives them that velvety look.
But matte leather is not only about suede and nubuck. Some smooth leather styles also have a more muted finish, especially our pull oil leather boots. This treatment gives the leather a softer, less polished surface with more visible depth and movement in the colour. The effect feels more grounded and natural than shiny leather, giving the boots a slightly more rugged, lived in character.

Vintage

Some boots feel as though they already have a story, even when they are brand new. That is the beauty of a vintage leather finish. The leather is given an extra polish that creates a more lived in feel, adding depth, softness, and that trusted character from the very beginning.
This kind of finish often has more variation in tone and a slightly weathered look that makes a boot feel full of personality. It is all about capturing the charm of a pair that feels familiar and beautifully broken in from the start.
Choosing the finish that feels most like you
Each leather finish brings something different to a boot. Smooth leather feels polished and timeless. Textured leather feels softer and more tactile. Matte finishes feel grounded and understated. Vintage leather carries that worn in charm that makes a pair feel full of story from the start. It simply depends on the mood you are drawn to and the kind of character you want your boots to have.
That is part of what we love most at Dandelie. The same silhouette can feel completely different depending on the finish of the leather. Sometimes it is the shine that catches your eye. Sometimes it is the texture. Sometimes it is that soft, vintage look that makes a new pair already feel like an old favorite.
